Blackberry lets go of 200 employees as focus shifts from making phones

John S. Chen was appointed as the CEO of Blackberry in November of 2014. He's been handed the responsibility of saving a sinking ship that Blackberry might seem like. Among several bold steps, including the launch of an Android phone, the company said that it has let go of 200 employees on Friday.

The company has been under a tough transition to software and services from the phone manufacturing one.

Blackberry phones were popular for their security features and connectivity but that seems to have faded with the phone finding it touch to keep up the shimmer of iPhones and felxibility of Android.

However, Chen has said that they will continue to work on Blackberry 10 OS to keep the current customers satisfied.

There is also news of another Android device in the pipeline which is a commitment to Blackberry's commitment to stay in the phone making business as long as it breaks even.

The details of the next Android device aren't out but it's much clear that Blackberry is going to focus on being a service company considering the security and communication tools they migrated to Android from Blackberry 10.

Considering the price and reviews of the Blackberry Priv -- their first Android smartphone -- we're more excited to see the kind of services and software Blackberry will dish out than the details of the next Blackberry phone.
