Dating apps like other online platforms have been witnessing spikes in users and user activity during this pandemic. As more people are stuck indoors, conversations within dating apps have seen an uptick. In India, Bumble has crossed over 4 million users. The women-first dating app reached 2 million users last December.
With women-first features, Bumble has witnessed women making the first move over 15 million times. In comparison to women users globally, women in India are sending twice the number of messages on Bumble. Also, 32% of women users in India use more than one mode on Bumble. In addition to dating, Bumble offers ‘BFF’ and ‘Bizz’ modes as well.
Among the different age groups, the fastest growing one is Gen Z users. Millennials are next in line. And both age groups are most active on Sunday between 8 PM and 10 PM on Bumble. In terms of predictions, Bumble said that users who add badges to their profiles have a 96% of matching. On Bumble, there are different profile badges such as pets, star signs, religion and more. The most popular badges in Bumble India are exercise, drinking and smoking. Bumble also shared that users with three and more photos have better matching chances by 22%.

Bumble also conducted a survey among its users on dating during Covid-19. The survey revealed that 57% of users find online dating more important than before. 47% of users have experienced a good online dating experience. Interestingly, 62% of users want to find a partner so they don’t have to go through another pandemic alone.
The pandemic has also resulted in behavioural changes when it comes to online dating. 81% of users would now take more time before opening up, and meeting someone in person. There are those who would prefer just chatting even if the relationship doesn’t go anywhere. When it comes to video dating, 63% users consider it safe, and 50% say it helps speed up the process of finding out if the person is right.
