In this tech-driven world, live telecasts and web telecasts have become the norm, but a live twittercast is taking live coverage a step ahead. In a rare case of social media and medicine joining hands, a US hospital live tweeted an open heart surgery with regular Twitter updates, photos, videos and interaction with followers.

'On Tuesday, Dr Michael Macris performed a double-coronary artery bypass on a 57-year-old patient. Dr Macris' colleague, Dr Paresh Patel, provided 140-character updates throughout the procedure and answered questions submitted by followers of the hospital's @houstonhospital Twitter account,' Mashable reported.

Dr Patel tweeted graphic medical procedures and explained the crucial methodology involved in the surgery at the Houston's Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital.
