Zoom video conferencing app, about which you must have heard during the pandemic or might have used for online meetings, classes or e-conferences has agreed to pay you a sum of money. When the offline meetings were on hold due to lockdown, Google Meet, Zoom and Teams were ruling the online video conferencing world. And Zoom was one of the most used apps for online video meetings. In fact, its quick rise to popularity had put the its rivals to shame, leaving them scrambling to improve their video conferencing apps.
But Zoom app allegedly compromised the privacy and security of its users. In fact, the personal information of users was allegedly shared with third parties by the company. “Zoom denies these allegations, denies any liability whatsoever, and believes that no member of the Settlement Class, including the Plaintiffs, has sustained any damages or injuries due to these allegations,” the company said on its website. Still, the video conferencing company has agreed to pay $85 million to resolve the lawsuit and update its privacy and security policies.
So, who all is eligible to receive this Zoom compensation? Unfortunately, only users from the United States are eligible to submit the claim.
Zoom will pay out a total of $85 million and has agreed to improve its policies and practices to benefit the settlement class members. Talking on the individual level, Zoom will compensate users whose personal information has been compromised with up to $25 as a claim settlement. However, users who are paid subscribers of Zoom app between March 2016 and July 2021 can claim to file for $25 or get the 15 percent of the amount that the they paid.
Additionally, the users who have registered, used, opened or downloaded the meeting app between March 30, 2016 to July 30, 2021 can also claim for the settlement amount. But they will get only $15 instead of $25 as the claim settlement amount.
To receive the amount, the users have to claim, which will be done by filling a form before March 5, 2022. You can submit the form online on the Zoom website - www.ZoomMeetingsClassAction.com, or else, can submit via email. You will need to submit the form before the mentioned date to get the compensation money from the company.
