If you recently received an email from Twitter asking you to confirm your account, don’t worry it’s not a scammer’s ploy of hacking into your account and gaining access to all your data. The message that you and dozens of other people received was indeed sent by Twitter. But it is not what you think it is.
Twitter via a post from its support page has confirmed that while the emails were indeed sent by the company, they were not a part of its efforts to mitigate the impact of a potential phishing attack. Instead, they were sent by the company accidentally.
“Some of you may have recently received an email to “confirm your Twitter account” that you weren’t expecting. These were sent by mistake and we’re sorry it happened,” Twitter wrote in its tweet.
So, what should you do in case you have gotten an email from the company? Well, you can do as the company says, which is ignore the email completely. “If you received one of these emails, you don't need to confirm your account and you can disregard the message,” the company added in its tweet.
