After Facebook staff speaking up against CEO Mark Zuckerberg and even staging a virtual walkout, a group of Facebook moderators have joined them in calling out the platform’s non-committal stance about Donald Trump’s posts. While Zuckerberg has said that Trump’s ‘threats’ don’t violate any of Facebook’s policies, the employees and moderators think otherwise, reported the Guardian.
According to the Guardian, the moderators have written an open letter stating that they would join employees who held virtual walkouts if not for their “tenuous employment position”. These moderators are a part of the platform’s third-party contractors who don’t have the kind of labour protections the employees do.
Trump posted the same thing both on Twitter and Facebook. While Twitter took action against the posts and flagged them, even adding a fact check label to one of the tweets and hiding another, Facebook did nothing. Zuckerberg defended his stance by saying that he felt that Facebook users should see the post for themselves, saying that Facebook “shouldn’t be the arbiter of truth of everything that people say online”.
After facing a backlash from employees Zuckerberg has said that Facebook will review its policies but hasn’t committed to anything yet.
