Facebook on Tuesday announced the rollout of News in the UK. This is the first time the dedicated news tab has rolled out outside the US.
The dedicated news tab provides news based on users’ interest along with curated lists of stories. The news aims to provide content from credible sources.
“With Facebook News, people in the UK will see the top headlines and stories of the day next to news personalised to their interests. During major news cycles, Facebook News provides timely news digests, highlighting original and authoritative reporting on the biggest stories,” said Facebook in a blog post.

“Facebook News gives people control over the stories they see in the app and the ability to explore news on a wide range of topics from a variety of news outlets. News articles shared by people and Pages will continue to appear in News Feed, just as they do today,” it added.
For sourcing news, Facebook has partnered with Channel 4 News, Daily Mail Group, DC Thomson, Financial Times, Sky News and Telegraph Media Group. Facebook has already partnerships with the likes of The Economist, The Guardian, The Independent, STV and several other local news sites. Lifestyle-focused publications such as GQ, Vogue and Cosmopolitan are also its partners.
Apart from personalisation, Facebook News also allows users to take a greater control of the content they will see in this tab. Users will have the option to select articles, topics, or publishers they want to see, or do not.
Facebook said it is now planning to roll out News in more markets and is in active negotiations with partners.
