Facebook has added a new feature for groups that should help with limiting comments on posts. Facebook Group admins can now slow down commenting on posts with this feature.
First spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra, Facebook is giving group admins the option to slow down commenting on posts. It’s aimed at helping situations where there can be conflicts in the comments which is something that happens often on social media platforms. “This can help you keep up with the conversation and encourage more thoughtful replies,” Facebook said.
The ‘Slow Down Comments’ feature can be found in the list of options available while tapping on the three-dotted button. This feature when selected will limit group members from commenting on a post only once every five minutes. So if someone posts a comment they’ll have to wait another five minutes. This can actually help discourage people from engaging in comment wars by delaying the process of commenting, and ultimately leaving them frustrated.

This feature is available for group admins and moderators. It can be turned off anytime following the same process as turning it on. It’s also available only for Facebook Groups, and not for individual posts on the News Feed. you can find groups from the left menu of the News Feed. If your groups are not visible, then click ‘See More’. You can turn on slowing down comments for any post in the group.
It’s interesting to see how this feature works out, and if Facebook would consider extending the time limit for limiting comments on posts.
