Do you often face internet issues while making payments via UPI? If yes, then NPCI has solved your problem allowing you to make online payments without even connecting to the internet. Since many of us depend on UPI and other online payment methods for most of the transactions, it sometimes becomes irritating when a transaction fails. One of the major reasons for transaction failure or slow transaction process is poor network connectivity. How to set up your offline UPI payment via UPI Lite?

Unlike UPI, which directly accesses your Bank account and sends or receives money, UPI Lite is an ‘on-device’ wallet. This means you’ll have to add funds to your wallet and use them to instantly send money to someone without an internet connection. But do note that the money can be sent only but it won’t be credited if the person receiving it is offline or in a no-internet zone. He/She will receive money when there’s an active internet connection. NPC, however, is planning to make UPI Lite a completely offline payment method. Also, you will be able to send a maximum of ₹200 per transaction while you can add a maximum of Rs. 2000 to the wallet. You can do unlimited transactions in a day.

Furthermore, you don’t need a UPI Pin on UPI Lite to transfer funds in your wallet and use them. Currently, it is available on the BHIM app only. You can access the wallet and add funds to it and make payments. As of now, eight banks support the UPI Lite feature including the State Bank of India, Union Bank of India, HDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Utkarsh Small Finance Bank.
