Now that Android 11 has rolled out, here’s how you can view the Android 11 statue in AR

To honour the release of the Android 11 operating system that started rolling out to Google Pixel phones last night itself, Google has created a statue that you can view in augmented reality on any Android phone.

Android’s VP of engineering, Dave Burke, tweeted a picture of the virtual statue with a follow-up tweet on how you can see the statue too.

Traditionally, Android puts up a physical statue in Mountain View for every Android OS release. Last year’s statue for Android 10 was a large number 10 signed by the Android Team. This year, thanks to Covid-19, the team has decided to create a virtual statue that people can see without having to step out of their homes. And it comes with some fun effects as well.

You can click here to view the statue from your Android phone. When you tap on the “View in 3D” option, you will be able to see the huge number 11 in your current space in augmented reality. You can view the statue on any Android phone that supports ARCore technology.

This year, you will be able to spot the Android mascot popping in and out of the statue in AR and there are some “Easter eggs” too. If you rotate the statue and check out the back, you will be able to see the whole list of new features that Android 11 is bringing in carved on one of the numbers. And just below that, you’ll be able to spot a small piece of paper taped to the base of the statue that carries a recipe for the red velvet cake.

In case you were not aware, Red Velvet Cake is Google’s internal code name for Android 11.
