Twitter India on Wednesday detailed its work on the upcoming Assembly Elections taking place in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry. In a blog, Twitter has listed out its product, policy and enforcement updates that the company is taking up for the Assembly Elections. It has also formed a global cross-functional team with local, cultural and language expertise for the elections.

Twitter will be enforcing its “civic integrity policy” to remove content that manipulates or interferes with elections, or has misleading information. Some of the examples of such content include misleading claims about votes not being counted or polling has ended. It will also add a label of “synthetic and manipulated media”, and link it to a Twitter Moment to make people more aware of such content. Users will also see a prompt pointing them to credible information when they try to retweet tweets with this label. Also, these tweets won’t be algorithmically recommended on the timeline, Twitter said.

Twitter will also consider accounts with inauthentic engagement like selling/purchasing tweets, retweets, likes, mentions and polls. These accounts may face permanent suspension as well. Twitter’s ban on political ads continues, and it will also keep a check on election ads from candidates and parties.

Twitter will also launch an events page for the Assembly Elections on voting days, and on the results day as well. These pages will contain a timeline of tweets from credible accounts. Users will find the event pages in the explore tab. Twitter also said it will add multiple language videos so from different news partners in the page.
