Facebook is changing what your Instagram Explore feed is going to look like and is giving the controls in your hands. In an announcement made on June 20 titled “Introducing Sensitive Content Control”, Facebook explained that they want people to be able to shape Instagram into “the experience that they want” and added that these new controls follow a feature they rolled out in October last year - the option to turn off comments or restrict someone from interacting with you in Instagram. The main focus seems to be on the fact that Facebook and Instagram want to curb bullying and heckling on the platform in all forms and now it additionally wants to let you pick what sort of content you see.

Facebook points out that their Community Guidelines already outline what sort of content can be on Instagram and mentions that “hate speech”, “bullying”, or “any other content that might present a risk of harm to people” are not allowed. Also, there are recommendation guidelines about what kind of content is shown at places like the Explore feed. However, despite these guidelines, there might be content you see on the feed that doesn’t necessarily break the rules but might upset some people for being sexually suggestive or violent. This is where Sensitive Content Control comes in.

With the new Sensitive Content Control feature, you can adjust whether you want to see more, or less, of some types of sensitive content. You can also leave it on default and see exactly what you are right now. “We recognize that everybody has different preferences for what they want to see in Explore, and this control will give people more choice over what they see,” Facebook explained.

How to adjust Sensitive Content Control on your Instagram profile?

- Go to your profile and tap on “Settings”.

- Then click on “Account”. Under this, you will see the “Sensitive Content Control” feature.

Here, you can decide whether you want to keep the setting at default, so as your Explore feed stays as it is, or you can “Limit” to see less and “Allow” to see more. Then there is also the option of “Limit Even More”. You can change these settings at any point in time.

The option to “Allow” more sensitive content is not available for Instagram users under 18.
