Intel introduces a gaming-focused SSD: Here's what it does

Intel, back at its Memory and Storage Moment 2020, had announced a bunch of new solid state drives (SSD) for users looking for greater and more efficient storage space. Building on that, the company announced the launch of a new gaming-focused SSD today.

The company today launched the SSD 670p, which the company says is a 144-layer quad-level cell (QLC)-based client SSD. Intel says that its newly launched SSD 670p has been developed using its QLC technology and it comes with the capacity of up to 2TB in a single drive that is ideal for day-to-day computing needs and mainstream gaming.

The company says that compared with the previous generation Intel QLC 3D NAND SSD, the newly launched 670p SSD offers improved performance, which includes up to 2x sequential read and a 20% endurance update. It also offers the right balance of performance, cost and power

“The Intel SSD 670p is based on our 144-Layer QLC 3D NAND with 128 gigabytes per die and provides up to two times better read performance, 38% better random read performance and up to 50% better latency over our previous generation SSDs,” Rob Crooke, Intel senior vice president and general manager of the NAND Products and Solutions Group said in a statement.

“By offering peak performance, capacities up to 2 terabytes, and improved reliability, the Intel SSD 670p is the ideal storage solution for thin-and-light laptops,” he added.

As far as availability is concerned, the Intel SSD 670p SSD will be available in various markets starting today.
