Intelligent connected machines to be a major part of life by 2030: Ericsson report

How technology and its application may affect your daily lives in the coming years? Here are some highlights from Ericssion’s 10th edition of ConsumerLab 10 Hot Consumer Trends report.

Ericsson earlier this week released the 10th edition of its ConsumerLab 10 Hot Consumer Trends report. The new study focuses on consumers’ expectations from connected technology and their applications by 2030.

“The ConsumerLab 10 Hot Consumer Trends 2030 report represents the expectations and predictions of 50 million early technology adopters across 15 major cities including Delhi,” said Ericsson in its release.

In the new study, respondents rated 112 connected intelligent machine concepts, ranging from a human-cantered to a more rational perspective. Each trend in the report depicts a specific role that such machines could take. Here are the predictions (local and global):

Body bots: According to the study, about 76% of global consumers predict there will be an intelligent posture-supporting suit. Delhi users are more supportive with 84% voting for the concept.

Guardian angels: About three-quarters of global respondents believe there will be some sort of a guardian that will help outsmart surveillance cameras and block snooping. Delhi users stand at 82% for this prediction.

Community bots: The study says about 78% of global consumers believe electronic watchdog services will alert neighbourhood allies to any trespassers. However, a higher %age of consumers from Delhi (81%) prefer gardening devices like mowers that team up to also keep common areas tidy.

Sustainability bots: Future weather will be extreme – 82% globally and 85% in Delhi believe devices will share data and warn about local rain torrents or heat blasts.

Home office: About 79% of global consumers predict smart speakers will be capable of projecting noise-cancelling walls around the home office space. In Delhi, about 89% of users predict smart electricity meters that calculate electricity used for work at home (including related activities) to be a reality by 2030.

Finance guide: According to the study, over 8 in 10 globally predict automated financial management systems that explain how investments are handled.

Self-driving cars: About 87% of consumers in Delhi predict cars that only drive autonomously when traffic is calm enough for driving decisions to be explained to the driver.

Connectivity gofers: Smart signal locators will be able to guide you to optimal connectivity spots, say 83% of global consumers. 86% of consumers in Delhi have voted for the concept idea of home access points that automatically connect your devices to fibre, cable, 5G and Wi-Fi to be a reality by 2030.

Baddie bots: A baddie bot that can be trained to carry out burglaries or attack other people are wanted by 37% of global AR/VR users. 87% in Delhi believe hacking networks that learn the behaviours of one’s devices to infiltrate them and take control will be in use by 2030.

Media creators: Machines will curate content. 62% globally think game consoles will make original games based on their gameplay. Majority consumers in Delhi (76%) believe it is likely that artificial musicians that write and perform their music will do better on the hit charts than humans in 2030.

Bossy bots: Around 7 in 10 global consumers believe that social network AIs will understand your personality and build up a circle of friends that is good for your mental and physical wellbeing. Interest in this concept idea is higher among consumers in Delhi at 84%.
