Koo launches Talk to Type feature with Indian languages support

Indian micro-blogging platform Koo on Tuesday announced the roll-out of a new ‘Talk to Type’ feature. As it implies, the feature allows users to post content on the platform using voice commands.

Koo claims it is the first social media platform in the world to offer such a feature. Koo users can use the Talk to Type feature in English and Indian languages such as Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, and Marathi.

“This “Talk to Type” feature is magical and takes creation for regional language creators to the next level. Users don’t have to use the keyboard anymore and type out lengthy thoughts. India language speakers can now speak their mind and the words will show up on the screen magically! For those who found it difficult to type in local languages, this feature removes all that pain. We will keep adding value to Indians by enabling the easiest localized forms of expression and present their thoughts to India in a seamless way,” said Aprameya Radhakrishna, Co-founder, Koo in a release.

Koo co-founder Mayank Bidawatka adds that the feature is not available on Facebook, Twitter or any other global platform.

In case you did not know, Koo had launched last year. Touted as the desi alternative to Twitter, the platform allows users to post posts, retweet-like Re-Koo, and even use hashtags. The platform had gained wide attention during Twitter’s tussle with the Indian government over blocking certain accounts.

In March, Koo announced that existing investors along with a bunch of individuals had bought out Shunwei Capital’s minority stake in the firm.

Individuals who participated in the buyout were former Indian cricketer Javagal Srinath, BookMyShow founder Ashish Hemrajani, Udaan co-founder Sujeet Kumar, Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy and Zerodha founder Nikhil Kamat.
