WhatsApp is arguably the most popular messaging apps in the world. Everyone, from teenage kids to grandparents, use it. It’s easy to use interface makes it extremely popular among the seniors and its growing feature set including the ones that allow users to share GIFs and animated stickers, make it popular among the teens and the millennials.

What’s good about this messaging app is that it’s constantly improving its features while adding new ones to the list. We saw a glimpse of this when WhatsApp increased the group calling limit from four participants to eight earlier this year when the overall time that people spend on calls went up dramatically owing to the Covid-19 lockdown.

Sure, WhatsApp has a lot of features and a lot of other features are in works. But there are a number of functionalities that still remain missing from the messaging app.

So, here are some features that WhatsApp doesn’t have yet but we hope it does have someday:

Wallpaper on WhatsApp Web

WhatsApp has a feature that allows users to change the background of their chats. Users can set anything, from a photo from their childhood days to a pic of their crush, as their WhatsApp background image besides setting solid colours or an image from the app’s gallery as a background in the app. But there’s a catch.

Whatever background users set in WhatsApp’s mobile app remains there. It’s not synced automatically while using WhatsApp Web. What users get instead on WhatsApp Web is the boring old default background.

WhatsApp sync chats and even media files as users access their account on the web. Wouldn’t it be nice, if the company extended the same favour to the background image as well?

Calling ability on WhatsApp Web

One of the best things about WhatsApp is the ability to make voice and video calls. But this feature is not available on WhatsApp Web. This forces the users to hold their smartphones (or keep it at a steady place) as they make a video or a voice call.

Laptops have cameras and microphones just as smartphones do. If we can share videos, images and documents via the app’s web-based interface, we should also be able to make calls from laptops and PCs. If only WhatsApp was listening!

Disappearing conversations

WhatsApp has been working on disappearing conversations for quite some time now. Reports suggest that the company is working on a feature that would enable users to send messages that vanish without a trace in seven days. What’s more? Reports also hint that the company may not provide multiple options for users to select as to when a message disappears. If that is indeed the case, it’s a huge bummer!

Telegram has a Secret Chats feature that allows users to set a time limit ranging between one second to one week as the self-destruct limit. Sure, WhatsApp can take some clue from it!
