Most used Emoji in 2021: Tears of Joy at 1st spot, followed by Red Heart; Check list

Emoji have become a major part of conversations held on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram etc. Social media users not only use or send emoji while chatting or messaging but also for various captions to show their emotions as accurately as possible. Also, these social media platforms provide several emoji depicting various expressions. These emoji can be used by people to easily communicate their feelings and to express their emotions. May it be anger, joy, shock, or any other emotion there are emoji representing every single mood.

Unicode Consortium, the not-for-profit organization responsible for digitizing the world’s languages has released a list of most frequently used emoji of 2021. And as per the report, the most commonly used emoji of 2021 is face with tears of joy. According to the report 92 percent of the world’s online population use emoji. Also, tears of joy accounts for over 5 percent of all emoji use and the only other character that comes close is the red heart.

According to the report the top 10 emoji of 2021 are: Face with tears of joy, red heart, rolling on the floor laughing, thumbs up, loudly crying face, folded hands, face blowing a kiss, smiling face with hearts, smiling face with heart eyes and smiling face with smiling eyes.

"92% of the world’s online population use emoji — but which emoji are we using? but which emoji are we using? Well, it appears that reports of Tears of Joy’s death are greatly exaggerated 😂. According to data collected by the Unicode Consortium, the not-for-profit organization responsible for digitizing the world’s languages, Tears of Joy accounts for over 5% of all emoji use (the only other character that comes close is ❤️ and there is a steeeeeep cliff after that). The top ten emoji used worldwide are 😂 ❤️ 🤣 👍 😭 🙏 😘 🥰 😍 😊," the report said.

While talking about the emoji that are top in their class the report said, "Emoji patterns are pretty universal across the subcategories — top-ranked emoji consistently represent multiple concepts so they are used in a wider variety of situations. As an example, let's look at clothing emoji. The top used is crown 👑 while the emoji collecting cobwebs in your keyboard seem to lack non-literal uses (like clutch bag 👝, lab coat 🥼, and flat shoe 🥿)."

Here is a small sampling of emoji that are top in their class:

1. Rocket Ship found in the Transport-air is symbolic of progress being made and anticipation of big changes.

2. Flexed Biceps is the top Body-parts emoji (this subcategory excludes hands) and is commonly used to indicate strength, success, overcoming a struggle, exercise, showing off, boasting, or rolling up your sleeve to receive a vaccine.

3. Bouquet of Plant-Flower for all occasions: congratulations, celebrations, and relationships of many varieties be they platonic or romantic.

4. Butterfly is the most common Animal emoji (found in the Animal-Bug subcategory) representative of change, beauty, nature, and transformation.

5. Person Doing Cartwheel may not be the most popular sport in the world but it is the most popular Person-Sport suggestive of happiness and joy.
