New Adobe Photoshop features rolled out on desktop and iPad; check out brushes, Canvas Projection and more

Adobe Photoshop update: Adobe has announced a large number of changes to Photoshop meant for desktop as well as Apple iPads, along with several new alterations made to its drawing app Adobe Fresco. More changes have been made in Discover Panel which is the company’s new solution for tutorials, one-click actions and other time-saving tools. The updates to the company’s app for the iPad continue to add features that are found on the desktop version of the Photoshop app.

New features coming to Photoshop for iPad

The first improvement coming to the software is the Magic Wand tool, which will allow users to select objects or areas with irregular shapes, select objects that have a flat background and picking areas based on tone and colour. The Magic Wand tool has been one of the most requested features according to the company and follows the arrival of the Select Subject and Refine Edge tools, which are both AI-powered.

The company is also adding the Healing Brush, a tool that allows users to make changes to any blemishes and imperfections on an image using a mouse or an Apple Pencil. Users will be able to retouch images and use controls like diffusion, blend modes and brush angle. The third feature coming to Photoshop on the iPad is called Canvas Projection and allows users to collaborate with others on a larger screen. This means that they can display documents as they are being edited, which can come in handy for classrooms as well as workplaces.

Improvements coming to Photoshop for desktop

Photoshop for desktops isn’t being left behind in this update -- the company has added a new feature called Sky Replacement Enhancements that allow users to pick from and import up to 5,000 high-quality sky presets (including night scenes, fireworks, and sunsets) at once via the “Get More Skies” option, according to the company.

Another tool that is getting an improvement is the Bezier handle movement tool that allows for Transform Warp, plus a Discover Panel that will save users time with quick tutorials, faster tool selection and tasks completion that can be accessed via Ctrl + F or via Command + F. The company has also introduced new Neural Filters that can apply the style of any image to a users document.

Adobe also announced that the new Photoshop Beta would arrive later this month and will allow members of its Creative Cloud to test out new features and give the company feedback about stability and performance, so that they can be improved before they are issued to the general public. Users can install the beta from the relevant section of the Creative Cloud desktop app and installing should be as easy as clicking the install button, according to the company.
