Google has just rolled out new Gmail web features. Google has announced that new improvements are coming to the Gmail web user interface that are designed to enhance the user experience while sending and receiving mails on the service. These include changes in Gmail user interface as to how recipient details appear while adding them to the "To, Cc and Bcc" fields, new avatar chips for recipients and messages that are displayed when communicating with users outside the organisation or contacts. Here are all the changes coming to Gmail and how they will benefit users.
New avatar chips for emails
While composing an email in Gmail, you might sometimes get confused with similar-sounding names or email addresses. In order to help users while writing an email, recipients will now appear in an avatar chip which will help the sender better identify the recipient. This should help reduce errors, especially when sending emails to a larger group of people - the avatar chip will show up when the right recipient is selected. Gmail will also warn users to resolve these recipient errors before sending the mail.
Familiar external contacts and reduced warning for internal domains
While you might use your corporate email address to talk to people in your organisation, most mail services will warn you while messaging accounts outside the organisation. However, Gmail can now smartly identity accounts you have previously contacted and highlight them with a deep yellow colour. Gmail will also not mark different domain names as “external” if they are from the same company (for example a @youtube.com user mailing a @gmail.com user) to eliminate ‘unnecessary’ warnings.
Identifying duplicates and cleaning up recipients
If you have already included a recipient in the To or Cc or Bcc section, Gmail will now show a checkmark to show they have been added. Dragging and dropping between fields will also now automatically clean up duplicates between different fields. Gmail is also improving the indicator to show where your keyboard cursor or mouse pointer is with a grey menu when a drop-down item is selected. These improvements and additions are now rolling out to web users and will be available soon for all Google Workspace, G Suite Basic, and Business customers, according to the company.
