Reliance Jio 5G services to be launched by Diwali in these cities; Know what Mukesh Ambani said at AGM

Reliance Industries Ltd Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Monday announced that the company will roll out 5G services in metro cities by Diwali. He also informed that Reliance Jio has earmarked Rs. 2 lakh crore investment for 5G network. The information was provided by Ambani at Reliance Industries' 45th Annual General Meeting (AGM). Jio will launch 5G services by Diwali in metro cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, Ambani said adding this will be expanded to each and every town, tehsil and talukas across the country in 18 months that is by December 2023.

He further said that Jio has deployed standalone 5G stack rather than upgrading the existing 4G network, to offer ultra-high speed internet. "To build our pan-India true 5G network, we have committed a total investment of Rs. 2 lakh crore. Jio has prepared the fastest ever and most ambitious 5G rollout plan for a country of our size. Within the next two months. That is by Diwali, we will launch Jio 5G across multiple key cities including metro cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata," Ambani said, as quoted by PTI.

Jio has partnered with Qualcomm to develop 5G solutions for India, Ambani said. He added that the firm is partnering with Google to develop ultra-affordable 5G smartphones and Google Cloud.

Ambani during the AGM said with 5G in place, Jio will launch billions of smart sensors with connected intelligence that will trigger the Internet of Things and fuel the fourth Industrial Revolution. "It will connect every one, every place and everything with the highest quality and most affordable data," he said.

He further added that Jio has made strong progress in fibre and FTTH deployment with pan-India fibre-optic network of more than 11 lakh route kilometres. He said two out of every three new fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) customers are choosing JioFiber.

"India is ranked 138th in the world in fixed broadband adoption. Jio will take India to be among the top 10 globally in fixed broadband adoption," Ambani said, as quoted by PTI.

Reliance Jio Infocomm bought airwaves worth over $11 billion at a local spectrum auction as it sought to cement its edge over the smaller rivals -- Bharti Airtel Ltd. and Vodafone Idea Ltd. -- in the rollout of speedier 5G networks. That will be key to boosting revenues and luring high-value users.

It can be known that the government aims to begin the rollout of 5G, which it says can provide data speeds about 10 times faster than 4G, by October this year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently also said that 6G services will be coming to the country before 2030.
