Tech Wrap: macOS Big Sur Public Beta available, Facebook Gaming app, Qualcomm bug and more

It was a rather eventful day in the world of tech. Apple made its macOS Big Sur public beta live while Microsoft announced that its Edge browser will be a part of system updates and users won’t be able to uninstall it. In addition to that, Facebook launched its Facebook Gaming app on iOS and millions of Android phones were found to be affected by as many as 400 bugs.

macOS Big Sur public beta is out for download now

You have to keep in mind though that what you will be downloading and using is beta version of the software and this means that it’s still a work-in-progress and might have bugs and glitches. If you are still using the 2012 MacBook Air, the 2012 or the early 2013 MacBook Pro and the 2012 and 2013 iMacs then you will not get the Big Sur.

Huawei: Smartphone chips running out under US sanctions

Huawei is running out of processor chips to make smartphones due to U.S. sanctions and will be forced to stop production of its own most advanced chips. Production of Kirin chips designed by Huawei's own engineers will stop Sept. 15 because they are made by contractors that need U.S. manufacturing technology, said Richard Yu, President of the company’s consumer unit. 

Harman Kardon launches three headphones, four speakers in India: Prices start at Rs 5,999

The firm launched a range of FLY series headphones and speakers as well including Aura Studio 3, Esquire Mini 2, Harman Kardon Neo and Onyx Studio 6. The FLY range includes three models - FLY BT (Bluetooth), FLY TWS (true wireless) and FLY ANC (active noise cancelling). 

Honor confirms IFA event for September 4, teases new phone, smartwatch and more

Honor has scheduled an event for September 4 teasing the launch of a new phone, tablet, fitness band, laptop and smartwatch. The IFA will take place in Berlin this year between September 3 and 5. It will be a physical event unlike other tech events which have been either cancelled or held virtually.

It will soon be impossible to uninstall Microsoft Edge

According to a Microsoft blog, once the new browser has been pushed out and the transition is complete, users will no longer be able to remove Edge Chromium from their computers. The browser will become a part of the Windows System update.

PUBG Mobile with Erangel 2.0 now available for Android users in beta

PUBG Mobile players can finally experience the long-awaited Erangel 2.0 map in the latest beta update. It is available to for Android users to download, and an iOS version will be rolling out soon. The revamped Erangel map will feature design changes as expected. There will be some changes made in areas such as Mylta Power, Quarry, Prison, and other play zones. Graphics have been upgraded and building adjustments have been made as well.

Facebook launches Facebook Gaming on iOS without games, slams Apple’s App Store policies

Facebook has the launched Facebook Gaming app on iOS without games. The app is primarily meant to be used to watch streamers play video games but it also comes with a few mini games. Facebook has had to remove all the mini games to pass Apple’s App Store approval process and the social media company is not in the least bit pleased about the compromise.

Millions of Android phones at risk due to security flaws in Qualcomm chips

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip used in Android smartphones may have put over 3 billion users globally at risk. CheckPoint security researchers have discovered over 400 vulnerabilities in Qualcomm’s Digital Signal Processor (DSP) chips.
