Radio Flyer’s $1,900 Tesla-branded all-terrain vehicle made for kids was voluntarily recalled by the company after federal regulators said it failed to meet US safety standards.

The Tesla Cyberquad failed to comply with requirements for youth ATVs, including mechanical suspension and maximum tire pressure, the Consumer Protection Safety Commission said Thursday. It also doesn’t have an agency-approved “action plan,” which is required to manufacture, import, sell or distribute ATVs.

The agency said Radio Flyer received a report that a 36-year-old woman was riding the Tesla Cyberquad with an 8-year-old child. It tipped over and she bruised her shoulder.

Family-owned Radio Flyer said on its website that it worked closely with the agency, and that Tesla Inc., which collaborated on the design of the ATV, is supporting the recall. It was available through the Tesla website.

“Radio Flyer has 105 years of history in producing safe, quality products that families can trust,” the company said. “We take the safety of children very seriously.”

The recall affects 5,000 units and customers are entitled to a refund, the agency said.
