TikTok competitor Chingari bags 500,000 downloads in 72 hours

The rising anti-China sentiment in the country has led to people in the country boycotting Chinese apps and products and opting for their Indian counterparts instead. This includes the Chingari app, which has emerged as one of the competitors for TikTok in India.

To give you a brief about the app, Chingari is a video-sharing platform that allows users to download and upload videos, chat with friends, interact with new people, share content, and browse through the feed. Users can also get creative with WhatsApp status, videos, audio clips, GIF stickers, and photos. The app is available in nine Indian languages apart from English. The list includes Hindi, Bangla, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Punjabi, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu.

Chingari, in recent weeks, has witnessed a steady increase in its popularity. Now the app, that has been developed by Bengaluru-based developers Biswatma Nayak and Siddharth Gautam, has garnered nearly 500,000 users in just 72 hours.

The increase in popularity has led the app to top the trending chart on the Google Play Store.

“The response of our customers has been overwhelming. Since the word spread that Indians now have a homegrown and more entertaining alternative to TikTok, we have been recording traffic beyond expectations on our app. To keep our customers delighted and entertained with the app experience, we are barely getting to for three hours. But it is a very enriching and satisfying experience,” Nayak said in a statement.

The company is now planning to add new functions and scale-up their platform. “As Chingari is setting new benchmarks, a lot of investors are showing interest in our app. We are holding crucial discussions to get a good investor(s) on board so as to scale up our free-of-cost social platform,” the Chingari co-founder added.
