TikTok rival Mitron reaches 1.7 crore downloads, raises ₹2 crore

The popularity of TikTok’s Indian rivals has been soaring in the past couple of weeks. One of such apps is Mitron, which recently touched the one crore mark on the Google Play Store in just two months of its launch. Now, the app has reached another milestone. Mitron app has reached 1.7 downloads in almost a week after touching the one crore downloads mark.

Apart from gaining popularity among the users, the Mitron app has also raised ₹2 crore in a seed funding round from two venture capitalists firms which includes 3one4 Capital and LetsVenture, Gadgets 360 reported. The company plans to use this additional funding to accelerate its product development roadmap, hire new talent, scale up the infrastructure, and engage with the Indian content creators in a better and deeper way.

The company is also focusing on building content and features that focuses on the domestic content creators, the company's founder Shivank Agarwal told the publication.

Interestingly, the development comes shortly after the Indian government banned a total of 59 Chinese apps in the country, including TikTok. The government while making the announcement said that the banned apps were prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of the country and the country’s defence and public order.

The banning of TikTok, which had amassed nearly 200 million users in India, has led to a rise in popularity of its Indian alternatives. While Mitron and Chingari apps are going from strength to strength, Zee5 has announced that it is planning to launch a short video sharing platform called HiPi in India soon.
