In a heartwarming tale, Twitter users came together to help a Zomato delivery partner buy a new bike. This has once again highlighted how people can come together to uplift the less privileged. The entire incident began when Twitter user Aditya Sharma posted on the microblogging site about Durga Meena, a Zomato delivery partner who lost his job as a teacher to the Covid-19 pandemic, on Sunday. Sharma noticed him delivering the food on a bicycle while the mercury rose till 42 degree celsius. Noticing Meena’s plight, he decided to find a way to help him.

He posted a series of tweets. The first one began with, “Today my order got delivered to me on time and to my surprise, this time the delivery boy was on a bicycle. Today my city temperature is around 42 °C in this scorching heat of Rajasthan he delivered my order on time”. Upon asking the Zomato delivery partner about his details, Sharma found out that Meena, 31 years old, had been a teacher for the last 12 years. However, as the Covid-19 pandemic struck, he lost his job and had to take up food delivery work to sustain himself and his family.

Twitter raises money for Zomato Delivery Partner

Sharma further tweeted, “he has done his bachelor's in BCOM and wants to pursue MCOM but due to his financial condition, he started to work with zomato. He knows everything about the internet. Durga told me he wants to have his own laptop with good wifi so he can teach students online because everything is turning towards online. He has taken loans and fulfilling loans from various banks. and tries to save money to purchase a bike”. The Twitter thread also revealed that he earns around Rs. 10,000 a month after delivering orders.

After Sharma expressed his desire to help him, the Zomato delivery partner requested him to fund the down-payment for a bike. Meena stated that not only will he himself pay for the installments but also return the down payment within 4 months with interest. Sharma decided to set up a fundraiser to raise money for Meena’s bike and posted the entire conversation on Twitter.

Within hours of posting on Twitter, users started sending money and his goal of reaching Rs. 75,000 was met in no time. Yesterday, Sharma helped the Zomato delivery partner buy his new bike.

Posting a picture of Meena with his brand new bike, Sharma posted, “All thanks to you guys. Delivered the bike in less than 24 hours. Still people are sending money requesting them not to send. Fundraising closed. He is very happy now”. This incident has one again shown that if people can come together, they can achieve great things.
