Twitter is now going to tell you why you did not get verified

After restarting its verification process after a long hiatus, Twitter has decided that it is going to also tell people why they did not get verified if they apply for it.

Let's be honest, we've all thought about applying for verification the very moment Twitter made the option available again. When the microblogging platform opened up for verification requests again, it did so with a new set of rules and requirements. To get that coveted blue tick, you would have to meet the requirements to the full. You might have seen several tweets on the site of people complaining about not getting verified, and so far Twitter has not explained why someone's verification request has been rejected. But that's about to change.

Normally, when you send in a verification request and it gets rejected, you just get a simple email from Twitter stating that your request has been rejected and that you can apply again, if you want, in 30 days' time. Now on, Twitter is going to let you know, in an email, why your application has been rejected. “We’ve heard your feedback that we can be more clear on why an application didn't get approved. Decision emails will now give more context on why requests don't meet our criteria,” Twitter Verified shared. And that's not all. Twitter has also shared a list of things to note before you apply to get verified again. So in case you missed out on any of this the first time you applied, this list will help you understand what you missed out on so as you can make sure those requirements are met before you reapply. To make is easier for you, we've listed it out.

Things to ensure before you apply for Twitter verification

1. If you are using a website to authenticate yourself, that website has to belong to a verified organisation. The website also must reference your name and Twitter account.

2. If you are a company/brand/organisation or an activist/influencer applying to get verified, your follower count has to be in the top 0.05% of active accounts located in the same geographic region.

3. For those applying as journalists, your Twitter profile must reference the news organisation you are affiliated with and link to its official website. Also, the news organisation you reference must be a notable, verified organisation as per Twitter's policy (which you can read here).

Journalists must also link to their specific about page/bio or to articles that reference them on the news organisation's official site. Independent/freelance journalists must provide links to three articles published in verified publications in the past six months before applying.

In case you have applied already and gotten rejected, you can apply again after 30 days from the day you received the ‘rejection’ email. and keep these points in mind. Twitter also mentioned that while verification is open again, some people still have not gotten the option to apply for verification. This should change soon too.
