Twitter Labs to let Blue members enjoy new features first, but there’s a big catch

Twitter Labs: Every digital service offers some sort of a beta program to test out upcoming features early; be it an iPhone or a messenger app. Twitter too has joined the train with its Twitter Labs program, but not in the conventional way. Instead of letting just anyone try out upcoming features, Twitter restricts to its members of the Twitter Blue paid service.

The idea behind this is simple: to give certain Twitter diehard fans an early access to certain features before it rolls out to the wider audience. If your life revolves around Twitter, this sounds like a must-try. However, Twitter Labs is currently restricted to Canada and Australia.

“Labs is our way of sharing some of the newest features we’re building so you’ll have it before everyone else. We’ll update you as we build, so check back often!,” says Twitter on its official post.

As part of the early Labs features, there will be two items to experience first. One of them is the pinned conversation for iOS devices. Similar to WhatsApp and iMessage, this will allow you to access your top DMs easily by having it pinned on top. Users will need to swipe right on a DM to pin it.

The second feature is more beneficial for those who upload a lot of media. Users can upload and tweet up to 10 minutes of videos, but only from your desktop client.

Labs is currently restricted to iOS devices only but in the future, there will be support for Android devices as well as the web. Additionally, Labs will be made available to more regions across the world but there’s no given date for this yet.

While this feature is yet to come to India, what’s available for Indian Twitter members is the new Cricket Scorecard feature, which will show up on the explore tab. During the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, fans will be be able to catch details of all matches from here. The Twitter Communities feature has also found its way to India, starting with one dedicated for Indian cricket fans.
