Twitter starts showing bigger image previews for iOS, Android users

Twitter is once again making strides with how it handles photos and images on its platform. The microblogging website has introduced larger image previews for images on its feed. This means that if you are posting an image that is clicked in portrait orientation, Twitter will not crop the preview and show a squared-off image. Instead, it will show a larger portrait preview.

Yes, this also means that you would have to scroll more through your feed to see more content as a lot of area will be taken by the image itself. However, it can be helpful in case of infographics and possibly for businesses to promote their products. In addition, this will prevent users from opening each image to look for the remaining content.

The firm has introduced this feature for both iOS and Android users as it confirmed in its Twitter post stating “no bird too tall, no crop too short introducing bigger and better images on iOS and Android, now available to everyone.” It is worth mentioning that at the time of writing this article, the web version shows the regular, cropped image. However, we expect the firm to bring larger previews to desktop as well in future.

Just last month, Twitter added support for 4K resolution images on its platform. The feature was under tests on Android and iOS since quite some time and has now reached the masses. Prior to this update, Twitter allowed a maximum resolution of 2048 x 2048 for images uploaded from its mobile app. To view and upload images in 4K, Twitter users will have to enable the feature from the app’s settings.
