WhatsApp crashing? Here is how to fix bug on both Android and iOS

WhatsApp can be found installed in almost every smartphone. To ensure that its users stay engaged on the platform, WhatsApp updates are constantly being rolled out. However, users should be careful before installing a new WhatsApp beta update for both Android and iOS. Reason is that it may cause WhatsApp crashing problem to well up. There can be several reasons behind these WhatsApp crashes, including a bug. If this does happen, are you aware of what you need to do in order to use WhatsApp properly again without a glitch?

WABetaInfo informed about the same on its Twitter account. "WhatsApp for Android and iOS keeps crashing: what to do? There may be several reasons why WhatsApp beta for Android and iOS keep crashing on your device. What can you do to use WhatsApp again?," it tweeted. As per the information provided by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has released two new beta updates for Android and iOS this week: the 2.21.24.11 update for Android and the 2.21.240.14 build for iOS.

"Unfortunately, both updates introduce some critical bugs. About WhatsApp beta for iOS, after uploading a new status update or sending messages in group chats, WhatsApp instantly crashes. On WhatsApp beta for Android, WhatsApp keeps constantly crashing on Android 12 for some users when using the 2.21.24.11 update, so they cannot use WhatsApp at the moment," it said.

What to do in these situations?

A fast solution is available for iOS beta testers, preserving the chat history: they can downgrade to a previous beta version by using TestFlight > Select WhatsApp Messenger (or WhatsApp Business) > Previous builds > Install a previous beta build.

If you are using WhatsApp from the App Store, you should always back up your chat history before installing the new update so, if something wrong happens, you can reinstall WhatsApp and restore your chat history.

Android users will have to manually uninstall the current beta version and install the old one from APKMirror, but a backup is required to restore your chat history. It can be noted that if you do not have a backup but you are being very practical to test something and do not want to wait for a WhatsApp bug fix update, you can try downgrading the app without losing your app data (and without root permissions) by using Android Debug Bridge on Android 10+.

For doing so you will have to enable USB debugging on your phone from Phone Settings > Developer Options. If this setting is not visible, enable it by tapping “Build Number” 7 times into “About Phone” Settings.

Connect your Android device to your computer via USB. Download adb tools and extract the zip file in any folder you want on your PC. In the same folder, you should also paste the APK of the previous version downloaded from APKMirror.

Rename the downloaded APK to app.apk to make the procedure easy. In the same folder, right-click and select “Open in Windows Terminal”. Let’s digit “adb devices” to check if your device is connected, then type these commands to downgrade WhatsApp:

adb push app.apk /data/local/tmp/app.apk

adb shell pm install -r -d /data/local/tmp/app.apk.
