WhatsApp multi-device support: Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had confirmed some time ago that WhatsApp will get multi-device feature soon. He was true to his word when, earlier this month, the Facebook-owned messaging app rolled out support for this much-awaited feature on the beta version of its app on Android mobile operating system. However, Apple iPhone users were left disappointed as they did not get it. Now, in what will be good news for iPhone users, the company has started rolling out the same feature on the beta version of WhatsApp’s app on iOS, WABetaInfo reported.

In case you missed all the hullabaloo around this feature, here’s a quick guide for you. WhatsApp’s upcoming multi-device functionality feature enables users to use their WhatsApp account on up to four connected devices. And importantly, they will not require the primary device, the smartphone, at all. So, if you are using WhatsApp via a phone number on your smartphone, you can use the same account to access the messaging app via your laptop and tablet as well even if your smartphone's battery dies and it gets switched off. Previous reports have detailed that users can connect web, desktop and Facebook's Portal using this functionality. The only caveat is that messages and calls cannot be made to users who are using the older version of the app.

It is worth mentioning that this WhatsApp feature has not been rolled out to the main app for the wider public yet. Facebook will first test it in its beta app, iron out all the bugs and then roll out this update onto the main app.

The blog also reports that WhatsApp is not rolling out the multi-device support feature to all iOS beta users. “WhatsApp is still partially rolling out the feature for specific users, so it’s possible your WhatsApp account is not eligible yet,” the blog site wrote in a post. So, how do you verify if you have received the update containing multi-device functionality or not? By following these steps. Before that you will have to ensure that you are using WhatsApp’s beta version on your iPhone.

How to check if you have received multi-device support in WhatsApp on your iPhone:

Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.

Step 2: Now go to WhatsApp Settings.

Step 3: Now go to the Linked Devices option. Earlier it was called “WhatsApp Web/Desktop”.

Step 4: If you see a new row called multi-device, it means you can use the multi-device support feature on your iPhone.

If you don’t see the option in the app yet, you will probably have to wait for the next update when the feature is made available to more beta users
