Windows 11 was released a week ago and many users around the world have updated their desktop and laptop computers to the latest version of the Windows OS, with several new features and a redesigned interface. However, with every new software release comes reports of bugs and glitches that affect different consumers, and now some users are unable to use their Brother printer after updating to Windows 11.

According to Japanese printer manufacturer Brother, users who have updated to Windows 11 are encountering issues when their printers are connected via USB, affecting laster printers and inkjet printers made by the company. The company is attempting to identify the cause of the problem and the issue will eventually be resolved, but users who connect their printers via USB might continue to remain affected until then.

If you updated to Windows 11 and realised that your Brother printer is not being detected when connected by USB, you are affected by the bug, which NeoWin estimates affects several different models. According to Brother, you might not be able to change your printer settings or connect “more than one Brother printer” via USB, at least until a fix is available.

“If you cannot use your Brother machine when you connect it to your Windows 11 computer with a USB cable, we recommend temporarily using a different connection type, such as wired or wireless, if available,” the company’s support document states. Another option is to roll back to Windows 10, if you are within the official roll-back period allowed by Microsoft and waiting until a fix is issued by Brother. It appears that Microsoft has not issued an upgrade block for users who have these affected printers connected, the update will continue to roll out to all eligible users. Users with these devices should hold off on updating to Windows 11 until the issue is resolved by the company.
