Windows 11 testers get updated Mail, Calendar and Calculator apps

Microsoft had released Windows 11 for its testers with a refreshed design. Windows 11 comes with rounded corners, a centred taskbar, new widgets and more. The OS is moving towards being more like the Apple macOS in terms of look and feel. While the widgets have been around for a while, they are now accessible directly from the taskbar. Now, Microsoft has updated several of its apps.

There is a new Snipping Tool that gets features from Microsoft’s Snip & Sketch app. If you press the “Win,” “Shift” and “S” keys on your keyboard simultaneously, you will activate the software and then be allowed to select the part of your screen you want to capture. Once the screenshot is captured, you will get various tools that will allow you to edit and annotate the image. The tool is also getting a dark mode.

Additionally, Microsoft is updating the Mail and Calendar apps in Windows 11. These apps now feel more like a natural extension of the operating system with the new rounded corners “and other adjustments.” Moreover, the Calculator app is receiving an update too. It gets a dark mode. Plus, the company has rewritten the software in C#. This could allow more people to contribute to its development over on GitHub.

As for what’s new with Windows 11, Microsoft will allow you to run Android apps natively on the OS. The company has partnered with Amazon to offer Android apps support. Hence, you will have to log in to your Amazon account to be able to download Android apps on Windows 11. Further, you will see Microsoft Teams integrated into the OS. Microsoft aims to offer a one-stop solution in messaging and video calls for users. You can now access Teams directly from the Windows 11 taskbar.

Microsoft is also improving multitasking features with the inclusion on Snap Groups and Snap Layouts, which is a collection of apps you are using simultaneously that sits in the taskbar.
