With the arrival of summer, the risk of skin cancer increases due to exposure to sun and to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. However, there’s no specific time or weather to get this. While more people are diagnosed with Skin cancer than any other cancer, it can be cured if detected at an early stage. Doctors recommend undergoing a full skin self-examination at least once a month. It can be difficult to keep track of new or changing moles, hence, there are a handful of smartphone apps that claim to aid early detection of skin cancer. THese apps can prove to be of great help but do note that they can’t be accurate everytime. So if you detect skin cancer, do consult health experts and undergo a detailed check up for confirmation. Smartphones apps that can help you spot skin cancer

Miiskin

Miiskin is an AI-powered skin tracking app that helps people to keep track of their skin and moles overtime and early detection of skin cancer. The app uses digital dermoscopy (magnified digital photography) to catch suspicious lesions they may not catch with the naked eyes. Anyone with an iPhone with iOS 10 and newer or a phone running Android 4.4 and newer can use Miiskin.

UMSkinCheck

UMSkinCheck is developed and launched by the University of Michigan. The app guides users to a skin cancer self-examination and full-body photographic survey for free. It helps in tracking moles and blemishes over time for changes, sends reminders to perform routine skin self-checks, and stores photos for baseline comparisons for future.

MoleScope

Like Miiskin, MoleScope too uses magnified images to diagnose skin. A product of MetaOptima (a supplier of clinical dermatology technology) MoleScope is a high-resolution camera attached to your smartphone to take magnified and well-lit photos of moles and sends them to a dermatologist for an online checkup.

SkinVision

SkinVision is an app that provides an in-app camera to aid early detection of mole or changes in skin. It even claims early detection of melanoma. The app uses deep learning to analyze photos of skin and hence help in early detection of skin cancer. It even provides one of three risk assessments within 30 seconds. The assessments are low risk, low risk with symptoms to track, or high risk.
