Mi TV stick leaks in hands-on video, retail box content and UI revealed

Xiaomi has long been rumoured to be working on a new streaming device which will rival the likes of Amazon Fire TV stick and Google Chromecast. Dubbed as Mi TV stick, the device has been leaked multiple times ahead of the official release. Now, the device has appeared in unboxing photos and hands-on videos, leaving very little to the imagination.

The photos and hands-on videos were posted by a blog called muritzy. The photos reveal the retail box contains the streaming dongle, USB cable, and a Bluetooth remote which looks very similar to Xiaomi Mi TV.

According to the hands-on video, the device runs on Android Pie. It comes with built-in Chromecast to let you mirror your smartphone content on a larger screen. It also reveals that Mi TV stick supports 1080p video output at 60fps.

Xiaomi’s upcoming smart dongle will also allow users to download various OTT applications such as Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and Google’s suite of apps such as YouTube via Play Store. Other compatible apps seen in the hands-on video are HBO Now, ESPN and Sling.

Apart from Xiaomi, Google is also working on a Fire TV stick rival. Codenamed Sabrina, the smart dongle will have Chromecast-like circular design. It is also going to come with a remote control which is said to have dedicated buttons to launch Google Assistant and other key functionalities.

Both Google and Xiaomi are likely to showcase their new streaming dongles very soon. Right now, there is no word on their pricing and availability.
