Last year’s Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra beats Galaxy S21 Ultra in DxOMark camera performance
On the DxOMark ranking page, one can clearly see that both Galaxy S20 Ultra and S21 Ultra have been tested with the new protocol that was recently set by the testing firm.
Samsung went big on the camera performance and specifications in smartphones last year by launching the world's first handset with a 108-megapixel sensor - Galaxy S20 Ultra. The device was also touted for its 100x Space Zoom feature. The powerful smartphone got a follow up this year in the form of Galaxy S21 Ultra, which also came with a 108-megapixel sensor. But, what's interesting here is the new DxOMark ranking, according to which last year's Galaxy S20 Ultra got a higher overall camera performance score than this year's S21 Ultra. We are talking about Exynos versions only.
On the DxOMark ranking page, one can clearly see that both Galaxy S20 Ultra and S21 Ultra have been tested with the new protocol that was recently set by the testing firm. However, S20 Ultra received 126 overall score while its more powerful successor, S21 Ultra was 5 points behind at 121.

This also makes last year's Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra the only smartphone in the top 10 list of DxOMark camera performance. While the Galaxy S20 Ultra is on 10th position, the S21 Ultra is on 17th position below handsets like iPhone 12, 12 Mini and Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G.

As a refresher, the Galaxy S21 Ultra sports a quad rear camera setup that includes a 108-megapixel sensor (f/1.8) along with a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel sensor (f/2.2), a 10-megapixel sensor (f/2.4) telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. There is also a second 10-megapixel sensor (f/4.9) telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom. This comes in addition to 100x Space Zoom. At the front, you get a 40-megapixel shooter (f/2.2).
