Mozilla will stop supporting Firefox OS in May to free the developers working on it. Their Firefox OS experiment was aimed at making really cheap phones for emerging market that would leverage the capabilities of web apps without compromising on user experience. Mozilla told Techcrunch that they were dropping the experiment on phones because they couldn't offer the best experience possible. However, if you want to pick one up, they sell for as low as 1,500.

However, this setback might not be the end of Firefox OS. According to a tweet by Ari Jaaksi, SVP ofConnected Devices division at Mozilla, they will use the lessons from this project to dwell into the IoT devices space. One of them is already out in the wild — Panasonic Viera CX700 — after debuting at CES last year. Before that, Mozilla has tried putting the browser on a stick to work with any television via their HDMI port.
