Sony on Tuesday refuted a Bloomberg report that the company had slashed PlayStation 5 production by 4 million units over chip issues.

“While we do not release details related to manufacturing, the information provided by Bloomberg is false,” Sony said in a statement. “We have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5 since the start of mass production.”

Earlier, Bloomberg had reported that Sony had slashed production of PlayStation 5 by nearly half due to manufacturing and chip-related issues. According to the report, Sony had cut PS5 productions to 11 million units by March-end.

Sony’s clarification comes at a time when Microsoft is aggressively pushing its Xbox lineup and has already revealed prices of the next-gen gaming consoles.

Sony will announce the price and other key details of its PlayStation 5 gaming console later today. The virtual event is scheduled to start at 1:30 AM IST.

“Our next digital showcase will weigh in at around 40 minutes, and feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners,” Sony said in a post last week.

Sony has also opened PlayStation 5 for pre-orders (invitation-based only). According to reports, Sony’s PlayStation 5 launch event will see details on titles such as Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Astro's Playroom.

Sony PS5 is expected to cost $499.99 whereas the PS5 Digital Edition will be slightly cheaper, reports Inverse.
