Can't buy GTA Trilogy on PC? Rockstar Games has reasons

GTA Trilogy has been out and so far, the initial response has not been on par with the pre-launch hype. The retro-modern treatment to the game hasn't been received well by fans of the GTA series. If that wasn't enough, the games have also been plagued with launch bugs. Players couldn't pass through the authentication stage on PC, thereby making the game unavailable for the first 29 hours!

Servers for the Rockstar Games launcher on PC were down, thereby not allowing the games to launch. After a long wait of almost 29 hours, Rockstar Games managed to get its servers back online. PC players have to rely on the Rockstar Games launcher for verifying their copy of the GTA Trilogy.

GTA Trilogy off to a rocky start

Sadly, the issues have still not vanished. Many players took to social media to share screenshots of several GTA 5 asset files with the GTA SA: The Definitive Edition, including files related to GTA 5's protagonist character Michael. Rockstar Games did not want those there and has now pulled down the game from PC.

“The Rockstar Games Launcher is now online, but GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is unavailable to play or purchase as we remove files unintentionally included in these versions. We're sorry for the disruption and hope to have correct ones up soon,” says Rockstar Games support. 

Surf the social media and the reception to the GTA Trilogy isn't good. The GTA Trilogy consists of reworked and modernized version of the Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Rockstar had earlier said that it has updated the graphics but retained the retro look and feel of the classic versions. Some elements from the GTA 5 have also been borrowed for these games.

The GTA Trilogy is also heading to Android and iOS platforms in early 2022, and is supposed to replace the existing ports of the classic version.
