Microsoft may launch rumoured Xbox Series S console in August

It looks like Microsoft will indeed be unveiling a more affordable version of the Xbox Series X gaming console this year. The device’s codename ‘LockHart’ was spotted in June patches for the company’s Game Development Kit. Now, another report says that it will be arriving sometime in August.

The news comes from Eurogamer stating that Microsoft was supposed to launch the rumoured console this month itself during E3 2020, which later was cancelled and the lockdown hindered the progress. So, the company spread the big reveals of the year, stretching it out over months and publicly branding it as Xbox 20/20. As a part of this, the company was supposed to reveal something major every month but in June there was no announcement made, indicating that this month was supposed to be the launch of Xbox One S or LockHart.

Microsoft has not yet confirmed the existence of the console. However, rumors indicate that it could be a rival to PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. What indicates that Microsoft could indeed be working on ‘One Series S’ is that it has previously launched Xbox One S All-Digital Edition as well. And since the Xbox Series X supports disk, it won’t be surprising to see an all-digital version of it in future.

Rumours also point out that the Xbox Series S might have a different set of specifications than the regular Series X. If true, this will be unlike what PlayStation has done this time. Besides the glaring absence of the disk drive, the PS5 Digital Edition has the same hardware as the regular version.
