Amazon email scam causes anxiety, steals all money; Delete it NOW!

Amazon email scam is on the rise! A newest attempt by hackers is now using an email with links to Amazon's main webpage, fooling victims and eventually forcing them to comply with their demands. The scam basically causes anxiety amongst innocent people, letting them believe that an expensive product is coming their way and they will have to pay for it.

As obvious as it gets, the email contains a phone number for people to call up and try cancelling the order. At this stage, the victim is now directly in contact with the hackers and there's nothing to do, unless the victim sniffs trouble and drops out of the call.

Amazon email scam is spreading fast!

Reported earlier by Express.co.uk and discovered by Avanan, the email even includes a link to the authentic Amazon e-commerce site and a mockup of the Amazon purchase receipt.

The email usually shows fake receipts and payment details for a very expensive product, which eventually leads to anxiety on the victim's part. Eventually, the victim ends up calling the number but the scammers do not respond. Instead, they call the victim back and then ask them to share their bank details in order to “cancel the order”.

Once the bank details are collected, there's nothing the victim can do. The scammers usually steal all data and may even grab hold of your entire bank account, or other key details.

How to stay safe from such scams

In this particular case, there are a couple of simple points that reveal the scam's intention. 

- The scammers use a Gmail account to send the fake email. Amazon never uses Gmail accounts to share receipts. Hence, it is always suggested to check the email ID thoroughly before responding to malicious mails. 

- You should never share details of your debit card, net banking login, OTP numbers, or other credentials with anyone over the phone. Even banks do not ask for such details over the phone from their customers.
