Apple CarPlay rival, Android Auto may soon auto-launch, no matter your phone is locked or not

Google is making it simpler for you to connect your handset with Android Auto. While until now one had to connect the smartphone to the car’s infotainment system using a wire or wirelessly. But soon, you will able to connect to Android Auto without even unlocking the device. This feature is not yet live but hints of it were seen in some codes inside Android Auto 5.9.

Based on the string of codes found by XDA Developers, it might not be a completely new feature built from group up but more of a fix for instances when your phone doesn’t auto launch Android Auto when connected to the infotainment system. This is considering you have the Android Auto app installed on your phone and have an infotainment system in car that supports it.

It is not for sure if this feature is for wired or wireless connections or both. So, one would have to wait for Google to officially roll out this in near future.

While Google is working on making Android Auto easy to work with, Apple is also making its CarPlay better. Just recently, Microsoft Teams added CarPlay integration among other features. This will let Teams users initiate and answer calls using the head unit in their cars. One can also use Siri to initiate calls hands-free. There is no word on Android Auto support for now through.

Here’s what the official blog post says. “Placing and receiving calls in the car will soon be easier than ever, thanks to CarPlay support for Teams Calling. With CarPlay, you can use your vehicle’s built-in controls to operate Teams, including using Siri to place and answer calls.”
