Apple may use iPad Air (2020) parts to fill 5G iPhone 12 component shortages

Apple was recently said to be facing some supply issues for its 5G iPhone 12 components. However, it looks like the company has a solution but then it’s not a full-fledged one. According to Nikkei Asia report, the company plans to reallocate some components of its newest iPad Air (2020) to the iPhone 12 handsets. One of the components being talked about here is the 5nm-based Apple A14 Bionic. iPad Air (2020) became the first by the company and in the world to be backed by A14 chipset. All four iPhone 12 models come with the same processor.

Since the chipsets allocated for the iPad are not moving to iPhone 12 handsets, it will definitely affect the iPad Air’s availability. As per the report, the reallocation affects some 2 million units of iPad Air (2020)’s production.

Also mentioned is that Apple has ordered supply chain to manufacture some 20 million units of the older iPhone 11, iPhone SE that came out earlier this year and the iPhone XR. All of these won’t be coming with the charger brick or the earpods inside the box. Apple the is expected to continue making iPhone 11 since it is performing well. For iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, these might be produced anymore.

“The momentum for the iPhone 11 is surprisingly strong and keeps going. But that's not the case for Pro and Pro Max,” said an executive-level source to Nikkei. “It's about time for the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max [to stop production]," said another source.
