For budding techies, it was nothing short of a shocker! In what was a massive heartbreak, major tech firms like Infosys, Tech Mahindra and others have revoked offer letters that were given to freshers, according to reports. It appears that the companies had earlier delayed the joining of the freshers by almost three to four months. The information has caused a big heartbreak among techies fresh out of college who were looking forward to joining a top firm and have been waiting for months to get their joining dates. Many of the freshers have claimed that no clarification has been provided on the grounds of rejection.

First reported by BusinessLine, the news quoted the emails sent by the companies to the students whose offer letters were rescinded. As per the claims of the freshers, they had to undergo multiple rounds of interviews and a strenuous process for selection.

An engineering graduate from Bhopal revealed her rejection letter from Infosys to BusinessLine which said, “It has been identified that you are not meeting our academic eligibility criteria. Hence your offer stands null and void”. However, according to the recipient, she met all the educational requirements of the company. She said, “my grades are above the required percentage. Despite all this, I received a rejection mail”.

Tech giants revoke offer letters sent out to freshers

A rejection email by Tech Mahindra that stated its grounds of rejection as “non-clearance of a certification test”. The recipient told BusinessLine, “The company had mandated completion of 12 courses as part of the joining process. Despite completing them and getting certification, I was rejected”.

Similar rejection emails have been reported from Wipro to candidates as well. However, in a statement, the company said, “Wipro can confirm that it will honor all offer letters that have been made to deserving candidates, in a phased manner”. No such statements have been released by Tech Mahindra or Infosys.

While the reason behind this mass rejection of candidature is not known, a consistent pattern between top IT and tech companies highlights that a possible cause can be rising global inflation and the fears of recession in days to come. Companies have already begun cost-cutting efforts. Reports suggest that TCS will be postponing its variable pay to the employees, while Infosys will be slashing it by 70 percent. Wipro is likely to defer it entirely, according to reports.
