The gameplay of Cut the Rope is very simple. It's a physics based puzzle game. Every level has a piece of candy tied to the wall and you have to guide it to Om Nom with the aid of the gravity. So say the 40 Million people who have bought this game and lauded it for its simplistic, cute and yet challenging gameplay.

When it was launched last year for the iPhone, Cut the Rope was an instant hit with its cutesy graphics and challenging puzzles. It has already won recognition and awards at BAFTA, Pocket Gamers and a GDC Award. With its subsequent themed level packs, the game continuosly built over itself and expanded into a fun game. It was recently ported to Android and released by ZeptoLab on June 30th of this year. We took a look at the Android version of the game on our test Galaxy S2 phone.

The gameplay of Cut the Rope is very simple. It's a physics based puzzle game. Every level has a piece of candy tied to the wall and you have to guide it to Om Nom with the aid of the gravity. Along the way, you'll find stretchable ropes, spiders, floating bubbles and air cushions, among many other things.

You have to maneuver physics using all these mechanics and ensure that the candy drops at Om Nom's mouth, which he happily chews to end the level. The control mechanics is very simple. All you have to do is swipe the ropes to cut them and tap the bubbles or the air cushions to use them.

All along the way, you also have to capture stars to unlock newer levels and get high scores. Scoreloop brings in the comptetitiveness in the game, with which you can compete with your friends and globally for high scores in the various levels.

Execution

Cut the Ropes is a cute game. You will fall in love with Om Nom and would want to feed him all the candies you can find. The quality of the art is very good too. The music and sound effects complement the art very well and are done in the same tone, so much that you really feel sad when Om Nom pouts when he misses the candy and gets upset.

On our review Galaxy S2, the game performed remarkably well. It played very smoothly and the touch inputs worked flawlessly. It might well be because the Galaxy S2 has a pretty high end hardware, however the game is supported for Android 1.6+ and thus should perform reasonably well on any android phone.

Overall

The cuteness element and the physics challenges ensure that you will keep coming back to this game over breaks and even extending some. Though not as riveting as Angry Birds, Cut the Rope has its own charm and will keep you glued to the phone for a very long time.

On the Android marketplace the game has been downloaded almost 500,000 (over 40 million times, if we include iPhone sales) times and, with 6216 votes, gets an average score of 4.6. And considering that the Android port performs the same as the iPhone version, it's definitely a good buy.
