Energizer’s ambitious 18,000mAh battery phone is a big flop on Indiegogo

Energizer had grabbed everyone's attention earlier this year at Mobile World Congress (MWC) with a phone that features a gigantic 18,000mAh battery. Called Energizer Power Max P18K, the phone looked little odd with 18mm thickness. The company had aimed to launch the phone this year and bet on a crowd-funding campaign Indiegogo. Unfortunately, Energizer Power Max P18K failed to meet the target.

Avenir Telecom, the company which has the license to Energizer's brand name for phones, aimed to achieve $1.2 million in total funding. The company, however, could only get $15,005, not even half of the goal. The phone was available to early users via Indiegogo for about $549 with shipping promised to start in October this year.

Even though Avenir Telecom's crowd-sourcing campaign failed, the company hasn't given up on the phone. "Although it didn't reach its goal, we will work on further improvement on the P18K (design, thickness, etc.) as we do believe there is a rising interest for smartphones with incredible battery life, which can also be used as power banks," the company is quoted as saying.

Energizer Power Max P18K came at a time when smartphones are becoming slimmer and even foldable. The Energizer phone failed at delivering a contemporary design. The 18,000mAh battery - almost twice the size of power banks - does ensure longer battery life but consumers may not be interested in device just for this.

As far as other specifications go, the phone features a 6.2-inch LCD display. It has a pop-up dual camera for selfies and a triple-rear camera setup. Running on Android Pie, it's powered by a MediaTek processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of default internal storage. The 18,000mAh battery does support fast charging, but it takes roughly eight hours to fully charge it.
