Facebook will now let gamers monetise their livestream gameplay

Facebook's latest project is to expand livestreaming gameplay by launching an exclusive platform for gamers.

Called the "gaming creator pilot programme", this platform will help gamers livestream their content and widen their reach to over 2 billion users globally. More importantly, it will help gamers monetise their livestream content.

Similar to Twitch and YouTube, Facebook will let fans pay to watch their favourite gamer's livestream on Facebook. This will however be limited only to the desktop site as of now. While Facebook hasn't specified the details on monetizing content, TechCrunch reports that gamers can earn at least $3.

Facebook has roped in popular gaming livestreamers like StoneMountain64+ who already has over a million followers. With this new will program, gamers be able to livestream popular games like Player Unknown Battlegrounds (PUBG), Fortnite, and League of Legends (LOL) via Facebook Live.

With the new gaming creator program, Facebook wants to "build more meaningful and more engaged communities on Facebook than anywhere else".

At present, Twitch is the most popular livestreaming website for gameplay. On a broader scale, YouTube is also another platform for gamers to publish their gameplay content. With a user base of over 2 billion, it's exciting to see how Facebook works towards making its platform a "creator-first ecosystem" for gaming.

This program will also help gaming creators increase their "discovery and distribution" across other Facebook products like Instagram and Oculus. The social media giant will also develop tools needed by gaming creators for their livestreams. One of the firsts is allowing gamers to livestream in Full HD (1080p) resolution.
