This is M10-R, Leica’s new ₹7 lakh camera in India

Leica, a popular camera brand, just launched its premium M-series camera in India, the M10-R. And its not as costly as your premium Nikon or Canon cameras but is priced a lot higher at ₹6,95,000. In case you are interested in buying this one, it will be available starting August this year in India. So, what do you get in Leica M10-R? It has a 40-megapixel sensor for a detailed shot. The company claims that “Along with the clear visibility of even the finest details, the sensor provides extensive performance reserves for cropping and larger formats.”

The M10-R cuts down on the possibility of giving Moire patterns due to its contrast-rich rendition, something that also makes it a suitable camera to shoot landscape and architectural photography. It has a base ISO sensitivity of 100 and can go up to 50,000 depending on the lighting environment. The maximum exposure time of the camera has also been increased to 16 minutes, as compared to the predecessor M1. This is s good news for professionals who want to click long night shots using tripod.

The M10-R gets the same shutter as the M10-P, which delivers minimal vibration and reduces the camera shake, as per Leica.

As for the technicalities, the Leica M10-R uses Leica M bayonet lens with additional sensor for 6-bit coding. It can also be used with Leica R lenses using an adapter. While the JPEG image is 8-bit, the RAW image or DNG files are 14-bit. Besides this, you get auto or manual white balancing options with 8 presets, SD card support up to 2GB, SDHC cards up to 32GB and SDXC cards up to 2TB.

There’s a 3-inch TFT LCD screen that shows 100% image field and Gorilla glass protection. The shutter range of the M10-R is from 125 seconds to 1/4000 seconds and it has a two-stage shutter button release as well. Backing the camera is a 1300mAh rechargeable battery.

Sporting a metal die cast magnesium body with synthetic leather covering, the M10-R has a brass top panel and base and black or silver chrome plated finish. Along with the battery, the camera weighs 660 grams.
