Google employees are facing a laptop issues, you aren't the only ones

Office-goers have been working from home for almost two months now and most of us have had to deal with certain technical issues that we had not imagined we would ever have to. Like laptops and upgrades. However, if it makes you feel any better, we’d like you to know that you are not alone. Google is another company that has been facing certain issues on the laptop front.

According to a report, Google has told its employees that equipment like laptops are in limited supply and the company has also cancelled all laptop upgrades that were scheduled to happen for employees.

A CNBC report cited documents that have been shared internally by Google for the report. “Remote onboarding is not a scalable process and essential equipment is not readily available in many locations”. Google has told employees that they are doing their best “to get as many laptops” as they can but “it is currently not possible to equip everyone with a laptop”.

Google has also mentioned that employees should not think this is intentional and that the company is trying “very hard to help as many Googlers as possible in this uncertain time”. The company has asked its employees to “understand” that since they are moving as quickly as they can, they might have missed come use cases.

The employees who have been most affected by this laptop issue are the ones on contracts. These contractual employees make up for almost half of the total employee strength at Google, according to CNBC. The employees who are getting first preference are the “Nooglers”, the ones who have recently been hired full-time by Google.

Also, if anyone’s equipment has been lost, stolen or completely broken they are being prioritised.

Google is preparing to bring some of its employees back to work from June, in a phased, controlled manner. Only those who cannot work remotely for some reason or if their jobs cannot be executed remotely will be asked to come back in.
