Google has taken a swipe at flight booking services by launching its flight search engine on mobile devices.

The flight search tool, launched last year amid some controversy, now allows users to search for flight information and pricing from Apple and Android devices, the search giant confirmed this week.

Like the desktop version, Flight Search mobile shows a list of flights to and from a certain destination, along with the costs and airline, thanks to information provided by travel industry giant ITA Software.

Users can also see average flight prices on certain days, to help them decide on the best time to go.

Like the desktop tool, the mobile search is initially available in the US, although it is likely to be rolled out internationally after the initial pilot period.

The move is likely to further antagonize rivals such as flight search site Kayak, which offers a suite of apps designed for booking on mobile devices.

This week also saw the launch of a new design from Skyscanner, which offers its mobile search tools in 29 languages and says that the revamp is part of a broader strategy which will see the launch of new features later this year.
