Google Maps is making it easier for you to pay for your parking

Google Maps today announced that it has collaborated with Google Pay to make it easier for users to pay for their street parking without using their wallets.

The company today said that it has partnered with parking solutions providers Passport and ParkMobile to enable users to pay for their meter right from driving navigation in Google Maps, and avoid touching the meter altogether. All users need to do is tap on the “Pay for Parking” button that appears as they reach closer to their destination. Once users arrive at their destination, they need to enter their meter numbers, the amount of time they want to park for, and tap on the “Pay” button. Google said that users can also extend their parking sessions with just a few taps.

This feature is being rolled out today on Android in over 400 cities in the US including Boston, Cincinnati, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Washington DC. It will be rolled out in the company’s iOS app soon.

Apart from this, the company is expanding the ability to pay for transit fares for over 80 transit agencies around the world. “Now you'll be able to plan your trip, buy your fare, and start riding without needing to toggle between multiple apps,” Google explained in a blog post.

When users get transit directions, they will see the option to pay using the credit or debit cards already linked to their Google Pay accounts. The company said that in places like the San Francisco Bay Area, users will also be able to buy a digital Clipper card directly from Google Maps. “Once you’ve purchased your fare, all you need to do is tap your phone on the reader or show your digital ticket to breeze on board,” the company added.

This feature will be expanded to 80 agencies globally on Android in the coming weeks.
